About efemeri.de

An efemeride is an anniversary: the record of something that happened on a given date. efemeri.de collects them. For each date, it picks five moments from different centuries and different corners of life, from births and premieres to treaties, launches, and finals, and tells the story behind each one.

How the events are chosen

Events are chosen, researched, and reviewed by a human.

The starting point is the "on this day" lists that Wikipedia keeps in 10 languages. An event that many of those editions remember is more likely to be picked, and so is one that people outside its own country would recognize. Each date aims for five different topics, and every date is checked against the event's English Wikipedia article.
